Acting Coaching

Book A session

I offer private, one-on-one coaching for professional and emerging actors working in theatre, film, and television.

My work includes scene study, acting for the camera, audition preparation, text analysis, and acting in English for international actors.

My approach to actor training begins with the foundational principles of Constantin Stanislavski, not as a fixed method,

but as an ongoing investigation into what allows an actor to live truthfully within imaginary circumstances.

I am particularly interested in how these principles were developed and interpreted by subsequent generations of American actor training: listening, as emphasized by Sanford Meisner; imagination and rigorous text analysis, central to Stella Adler's work; and sensory work and affective memory, explored by Lee Strasberg.

I do not regard these traditions as competing techniques. Each illuminates a different aspect of the actor's work, and no single approach serves every actor, every role, or every medium.

My teaching draws from these traditions while remaining responsive to the individual actor and the particular demands of the text, the scene, and the camera.

Teaching Philosophy

Actors are crafted storytellers.

Actors use their craft to express the complexities of what we call the human condition.

However, an actor needs much more than craft. An actor needs empathy.

I have found that it can be difficult to teach empathy.

But I have also found that through encouraging actors to look at others’ lives, their triumphs and their struggles, empathy can be cultivated.

Through this new way of seeing, I’ve witnessed actors move beyond egocentrism toward a deeper attention to others.  It is an experiential shift, not a theoretical one.

When this happens, an actor’s work is forever changed.
